De Sade's contribution

apparently, "Juliette or Enlightenment and Morality" from the dialectic of enlightenment by H-A refers back to de sades' juliette (1800), his second novel with the notorious nymphomaniac as the protagonist.

They write: "she demonizes Catholicism as the most-up-to-date mythology, and with it civilization as a whole […] her procedures are enlightened and efficient as she goes about her work of sacrilege […] She favours system and consequence." hence, the novel is the perfect illustration of the philosophy of enlightenment.
